The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
Bruce and Kira's journey began in August of 2021 under very common circumstances. Our Humane Officers responded to a report to check the wellbeing of two dogs at an address in Ventura County.
We are pleased to announce the return of our Animal Ambassadors to the Shelter! After a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, we are excited to welcome our most experienced volunteers back and appreciate their immense patience as we navigate this everchanging pandemic.
The Humane Society of Ventura County has had another successful year of providing free pet food to those in need. We are excited to share that our Shelter distributed approximately 34,000 pounds of free pet food across Ventura County in 2021 through our combined pet food programs! That's over 5x more than what we distributed in 2020!
We would like to give a big shoutout to our animal-loving friends at Rincon Brewery in Ventura for helping us raise money as part of the #BettyWhiteChallenge! Rincon hosted a fundraiser event from January 14th through 17th in which attendees were encouraged to purchase a $7 beer to honor the beloved actress. All proceeds from their Ventura location were then donated to the HSVC. Thank you, Rincon, for being a friend to animals in need and making Betty White proud!
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Shelter as part of the #BettyWhiteChallenge! We were honored to receive over $10,000 in donations from animal lovers all over the country. What a meaningful way to celebrate what would've been the beloved star's 100th birthday!
As you may know, every year dedicated runners head to our beautiful coastal county to run the Ventura Marathon after months of training! But did you know that the Humane Society of Ventura County is one of Ventura Marathon’s Charity Partners? The animals here at the Shelter have been the lucky recipients of donations made through Ventura Marathon’s fundraising since its start, in 2013. The Ventura Marathon has raised over $18,000 to date, and that’s not even including this year!
As many know, Betty White passed away on December 31st, 2021 just before her 100th birthday. Supporters can join us in honoring her legacy by participating in the "Betty White Challenge" and donating $5 to the HSVC in her name. This online event takes place on January 17th, what would have been the star's 100th birthday.
Looks like Athena and Malli had a blast on their weekend hiking adventure! The pair of HSVC shelter pups recently spent an afternoon exploring the trails of downtown Ojai with Kennel Attendant/Vet Assistant Natalie and Humane Officer Utter. Talk about a picture-perfect play date!
