We are very excited to launch our #TrainingTuesdaywithTracy series! Many people are spending more time at home with their animals due to the ongoing pandemic. We think this is an excellent opportunity to teach your pet some new skills! The HSVC has partnered with Tracy Vail, professional dog trainer and owner of The Canine Messanger, to bring pet owners some quick and fun videos to help you train your furry friend. We will be posting a new training video every Tuesday!
The Humane Society of Ventura County would like to extend a big thank you to siblings Riely and Isabelle for donating $942 to our shelter in honor of their beloved dog who recently passed away after consuming a poisonous mushroom.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat wave advisory for this Friday through Monday in Ventura County and surrounding areas, with triple-digit temperatures predicted. Soaring temperatures can mean big trouble for animals. Heat-related problems are some of the most common issues of summertime ailments. We are sure all our pet parents have heard this before, but it is vitally important to be aware of what heat can do to our loved ones!
Jazzy is officially available for adoption! She has fully recovered from her surgery and is healthier than ever after spending five days at Dr. April Armstrong’s lab facility to be treated for an infection in her uterus. Thank you Dr. Armstrong!

They can provide several health benefits, including keeping carbon dioxide levels down, removing pollutants, and improving moisture levels in your home. However, there are some common houseplants that can be toxic to your furry friends. According to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), the following houseplants could be potentially dangerous to the wellbeing of your pets.
The HSVC would like to extend a big thank you to Kirby Subaru of Ventura for donating food and funds to our shelter as part of the Subaru Loves Pets program! Bruce Holley (left) from Kirby Subaru of Ventura stopped by the shelter to drop off the truckload of goods, which included Pedigree wet and dry dog food, dog treats, and a large monetary donation. Assistant Shelter Director Arlene MacSween (middle), Director of Community Outreach Greg Cooper (right), and shelter dog Maso were on hand to receive the donation.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Humane Society of Ventura County has offered critical services to the public.
