Thank You ASAP Cats & Kitten Rescue!

Six premature neonatal kittens were delivered to HSVC in desperate need of critical care on Monday, April 10th. With no mama, their immediate needs were beyond our shelter's capacity to provide. Thankfully a fellow rescue, ASAP Cats & Kittens, answered our call for help! Their team fired up their brand new incubator to be ready for our fragile felines upon arrival and secured highly experienced foster parents to provide 24-hour care. We are elated to report that all six tiny fur babes are growing healthfully and enjoying the benefits of a proper cuddle-puddle! In addition to ASAP’s immediate willingness to care for a half dozen neonates, they kindly donated essential supplies and resources to bolster HSVC’s new Foster program. We are infinitely grateful for their partnership and protection of felines ranging from premature neonate orphans to assisting with a feral mother and her new born kittens. Thank you to the fine women of ASAP Cats & Kittens for rising to the occasion and providing life-saving care to precious creatures in need!

Thank You, Amazon!

This generous donation was made possible by Amazon Gives and OXR1 Mental Health and Well-Being. Not only did the amazon team give us this generous gift, but they also volunteered to help us with shelter cleaning duties! Milo Finds His Forever Home!

After 464 days, we are thrilled to share that Milo has FINALLY found his forever home! Our favorite boy is living happily ever after with Dane, and we could not be more excited for him! Many have followed Milo's journey over the past year. He first arrived at the shelter just before Christmas in 2021 as a result of an abuse and neglect case. The Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd was severely underweight when he first came under our care and was in need of some major TLC. Thanks to our dedicated staff, Milo slowly began putting on weight and regaining his strength.

Hoppy Easter from HSVC! Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe

Easter Sunday is right around the corner! From bunny-clad egg hunts to festive sweet treats, this weekend is sure to be a blast! However, our furry and feathered friends may be at risk for mischief if pet owners are not careful. Check out these tips and tricks to keep your animals safe this Easter! Bunnies, chicks, and ducks: These animals are more than just the mascots of the Easter holiday. They are living creatures and should not be looked at simply as a festive toy. Rabbits can be very destructive if not provided with the proper care and chickens and ducks can live up to 10 years! Instead of bringing home a new pet this Easter, consider visiting your local animal shelter to adopt a shelter animal. This is a great opportunity to teach young children how to humanely treat animals and the responsibilities of becoming a pet parents. Easter candy: All candies, chocolates, wrappers, and sugar products should be kept away from your animals as they are potential hazards. Theobromine, a chemical found in most chocolate, is poisonous to pets. If you suspect your pet has ingested any of these items, contact your veterinarian immediately. Easter eggs (plastic and real): Plastic eggs can be a choking hazard and can cause serious damage if consumed due to their inability to be digested. Boiled eggs, especially those still in the shell, can cause an upset stomach or constipation. If you are celebrating this Sunday with an egg hunt, make sure to keep track of how many eggs are used and be sure they are all collected when the hunt is over. Synthetic grass & tinsel: Both synthetic grass and tinsel can become entangled in the intestines if ingested. If not caught in time, this may be fatal for your pets. Easter lilies: Lilies are a beautiful component of any Easter display, but they are extremely dangerous to pets, especially cats. Every part of the lily is highly toxic and even eating just one leaf can result in kidney failure and even death. Raw dough: Keep any items containing yeast or uncooked dough away from your pets. If consumed, it can ferment and become poisonous in their stomachs. Have a safe and hoppy Easter, friends!

Staff and Volunteers Honor Laurie Adams' Memory with Pack Walk

Staff and volunteers gathered Friday morning to partake in an all shelter pack walk to honor Laurie Adams, a beloved HSVC volunteer who passed away in early February of this year. Laurie's husband, Roger, and her two fur children Beau and Luke were also in attendance. It was the largest pack walk in shelter history and the perfect way to honor a truly special individual.
