Say hello to Winston, a 7-year-old German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix with a soft soul, a goofy smile, and a heart full of love to give. For over 150 days, Winston has been patiently waiting at the shelter, hoping each day will be the one he finds his forever family. In the meantime, he’s been winning over every staff member and volunteer he meets with his sweet nature, calm demeanor, and signature happy-go-lucky charm. Winston is truly the full cuddle and companion package. He’s affectionate, loyal, and loves nothing more than being close to his people, whether that’s joining you for a stroll around the neighborhood or curling up next to you on the couch. His tail wags at every friendly face, and his joyful personality lights up every room he enters.

Winston may be considered a senior, but don’t let that label fool you; he still has plenty of pep in his step! This playful guy is gentle and always up for a game of fetch or a cozy nap by your side. He walks beautifully on a leash, knows how to sit, and is eager to please, especially if you’ve got a treat in hand. With his big heart and even bigger smile, Winston is the kind of dog who makes you feel like the most important person in the world. Though he’s still learning how to share his space with other animals, Winston has made great progress on our pack walks and may do okay with another dog after a slow and proper introduction. That said, we think Winston would thrive as your one and only furry companion, soaking up all the love, attention, and snuggles a devoted family can offer.

He’s also wonderful with children and would love a home where he can be part of the action, soaking up affection, lounging in sunbeams, and being your loyal shadow wherever you go. Winston is ready to leave shelter life behind and start his next chapter with a family who truly sees him. Someone who appreciates his soft eyes, silly grin, and loving personality. A special person who believes that every dog, no matter their age, deserves a forever filled with love.

Are you ready to give Winston the endless belly rubs and get unconditional love in return? Visit Winston at the shelter, located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai, anytime Monday through Saturday, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. He will be the one wagging his tail and smiling as if you’ve been best friends forever. Included with every dog adoption will be the first DHPP shot of the series (if age allows), a rabies vaccine (if age allows), a wellness check good for up to three days from participating veterinarians, implanting an identification microchip with registration, spay or neuter surgery, if necessary, as well as a collar, ID tag, and a leash.

Reminder! HSVC is celebrating Clear the Shelter this August, joining hundreds of shelters nationwide to help pets find their forever homes. From August 1st to August 31st, adoption fees will be determined by our Wheel of Adoption, back by popular demand! Those looking to adopt can spin the wheel and take home their new furry family member for a reduced adoption fee. Fees range from $10 to half-price, and all dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are eligible! Excludes horses.

As if our "spin the wheel" adoption promotion wasn't enough fun, there's more! To help as many pets as possible start their next chapter, we're offering FEE-WAIVED ADOPTIONS on Saturday, August 23rd, from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
