A Perfect Home for Prieto

Three cheers for Prieto! The 28-year-old Quarterhorse officially found his forever home with Chari on May 19th. This adoption came to be thanks to Chari’s niece, who spotted Prieto online and reached out to us while searching for a new equine companion for her aunt. After recently losing their own beloved senior horse, the family was hoping to find a gentle partner for their remaining horse, Banche, and a calm trail companion for Chari. Preito went home as a foster-to-adopt (FTA) placement for one month to ensure it was the right fit, and it absolutely was! We couldn't be happier for this deserving senior guy!

Prieto arrived at the shelter in mid-September 2023 after he was surrendered in the field to our Humane Officers. He was severely emaciated at the time, weighing just 779 pounds with several open wounds (seen above). It took patience and lots of love, but over time, "Mr. P" was able to put on weight to transform back into the handsome, healthy boy we knew he could be!

Mr P. met his future family during a meet and greet arranged by our Equine Manager, Christina. It was clear from the start that there was a special connection. According to Chari, Mr. P. has adjusted beautifully to his new life. He enjoys trail rides and can even be taken out on the street solo. Once a performance horse, Mr. P. seems to love having a purpose again. His new family says he’s thriving, happy, and full of personality.
A heartfelt shout-out goes out to our shelter staff, Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates Equine Hospital, Dr. April Armstrong of Shoreline Equine, and farrier Stacy Hyatt for never giving up on Preito and helping him find his happy ending. We couldn't be more excited for Chari and Mr P. Here’s to many happy trails ahead!
