A Fairytale Ending for Nyx

Sometimes, the animals meant for us find us when we least expect them. Nyx (formerly Lupine) arrived at the Humane Society of Ventura County as a stray, and from the moment she walked through our doors, there was something undeniably special about her. HSVC's Director of Field Operations, Kendra King, heard about the peculiar-looking dog that had arrived and was drawn to meet her. After one visit to the kennels, Kendra was hooked! Nyx's striking, soulful eyes made her look like she was straight out of a fairytale. In that moment, Kendra thought, "I have to take her home!"

After their first meeting, Kendra decided to take Nyx up to her office for the rest of the day. Nyx settled in with ease, soaking up the attention, the calm, and the comfort away from the kennels. It was clear she felt safe in the space, solidifying Kendra's deep-rooted feeling that Nyx was meant for her.
The final, and arguably most important, step was introducing the sweet pup to Kendra's family and their dog, Gus, an HSVC alum. Gus had been missing his longtime companion, Lola, a German Shepherd adopted from HSVC who lived a full, happy life until she passed away in 2023 at age 13. Gus had been lonely, and while Kendra and her husband, David, wanted to give him time, they also knew one day the right dog would come along. That dog was Nyx, and the pair became instant friends the moment they met. It was meant to be!
Nyx's story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the people who care for these animals are changed just as deeply as the animals they help. Congratulations to Nyx, Gus, Kendra, and David on their perfect little family, and thank you for giving this magical "little creature" the forever home she was waiting for.
