The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
If you are a regular follower of the Humane Society of Ventura County then Sequoia will be a familiar face. Sequoia, who is currently the longest dog resident at the shelter, recently encountered a setback that required surgery on her hind leg.
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Southwest California including Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties. Special concern needs to be made for our pets.

October is Adopt-A-Shelter Dog month and all month long rescue organizations are busy bringing awareness to the special charms of shelter dogs and the perks of bringing one home. By adopting your new best friend from a shelter you will not only be giving an innocent animal a chance at a great life but greatly improving yours at the same time!
We are so proud of our girl Sequoia who is recovering nicely from her surgery! Sequoia recently tore her ACL that required surgery to relieve her pain and discomfort. With the help of her friends and supporters Sequoia is on the road to wellness and we anticipate a full recovery!
We are pleased to announce this fall’s Open Board Meeting will be held at the shelter on Wednesday, October 18th at 6 pm. The meeting will be held in front of the Harry Valentine Visitor Center. We are looking forward to meeting with our donors, volunteers, and both old and new friends of the shelter.
For the past 4 years Dee has dedicated her time to volunteering at the Humane Society of Ventura County. She enjoys going out to local events and helping with our information booth, telling people about our services and available animals. The first and third Saturday of each month we are fortunate to have Dee help the office with licensing, ID Tags, and filing.
