Guava's Heartbreaking Milestone

Above, far left: Guava when he first came into the shelter at 7-months old (notice the spots on his nose as he got older)
Some dogs come to the shelter for a short stay. Others, like Guava, quietly wait longer than anyone ever imagined, with unwavering faith that their person is out there. Guava has officially hit his one-year milestone here at the Humane Society of Ventura County, and while that's not something we ever want to celebrate, we do want to celebrate what a fantastic dog he is. Nearly 2-years-old now, Guava is still a young, goofy, big-hearted Pit Bull Terrier mix who has grown up right before our eyes.
Guava has so much to offer, we have no idea why he's still here! This sweet boy does well with other dogs and enjoys playing, but he is not afraid to set boundaries. His days at the shelter are filled with running, wrestling, and joyful zoomies. When playtime winds down, Guava happily soaks up attention, learns new tricks, or flashes that irresistible goofy grin that makes staff and volunteers fall for him again and again. He's smart, eager to please, and still very much in his "learning and growing" era, making him perfect for someone who enjoys training, structure, and watching a young dog blossom.
Guava would love a home where he can relax and just be a dog. He's not looking for perfection, just a place with patience, consistency, and someone who wants a loyal sidekick to share life with and cuddle up next to after a long day. After a year of waiting, Guava is still hopeful. He hasn't given up on finding his person, and neither have we!
If you're searching for an adventurous, playful companion who will love you with his whole heart, Guava might be the one you've been waiting for. Come meet him at the shelter located at 402 Bryant St in Ojai, anytime Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Guava is ready to close this chapter and start his forever story, and maybe it's with you!
