This past weekend was one for the books! The sun was shining bright as HSVC hit the road to bring compassionate care and adoption opportunities to our community. On Saturday, September 7th, our HSVC Cares team posted up in Fillmore to deliver affordable, accessible veterinary services to local pet owners. Then on Sunday, September 8th, our shelter partnered with Tractor Supply Co. in Ventura for a tail-wagging adoption event. Thank you to all who came out to receive services, support, and help us spread the word about the lifesaving work HSVC does!

Thanks to the dedication of our HSVC Cares staff and volunteers, we were able to provide dozens of cats and dogs with the essential vaccines they need to stay healthy and protected. Families lined up under the warm sun, grateful for the opportunity to access low-cost care right in their neighborhood. These low-cost clinics continue to play a vital role in preventing illnesses, keeping pets safe, and supporting owners who may face barriers to traditional veterinary care. A big thank you goes out to our clinic team and Petco Love for making these services possible. The free distemper/parvo (DHPP) vaccines for dogs, upper respiratory (FVRCP) vaccines for cats, low-cost rabies vaccines, and $10 microchips continue to be an invaluable resource for our community.

Sunday’s adoption event at Tractor Supply Co. was equally full of sunshine and smiles. Our adoptable pups soaked up the attention, greeting shoppers and showing off their playful personalities. From energetic tail wags to quiet snuggles, each dog made it clear they were ready to find their forever family. The event provided us with the perfect opportunity to connect with new supporters, share our mission, and showcase the incredible dogs currently waiting at the shelter. We are grateful to Tractor Supply Co. in Ventura for hosting us and for creating a welcoming space where our animals could shine.

(Left) The day's greatest victory was when Betty, one of our sweet shelter dogs, found her forever home! The joy on her new mom's face was priceless as she met the 8-year-old poodle mix and realized she was the perfect fit for her home. Moments like these are what make adoption events so meaningful; not just for the animals, but for the families who gain a loyal companion for life.

From providing life-saving vaccines to celebrating potential new beginnings for shelter pets, every event strengthens our bond with the community and helps create brighter futures for animals in need. We’re incredibly thankful to all who came out to support us, whether you brought your pet for vaccines, stopped by to meet our dogs, or helped spread the word. Your support fuels our mission and ensures we can continue providing services and second chances.
