For most of her life, A. Derringer has had a strong desire to help animals. Watching her hero Steve Irwin work with animals and educate the world about them was a major influence on her during her early years. Starting with her first rescue, a frog aptly named “Froggy”, Derringer's desire to help animals only grew from there.

In October of 2022 A. Derringer completed the San Diego Humane Society’s Basic Animal Law Enforcement Academy. However, she has since pivoted career paths and was officially hired as HSVC's Volunteer Coordinator in January of 2024.
