Happy 97th Birthday, Allyn!

The Humane Society of Ventura County recently hosted a very special birthday party at the shelter. Allyn Wilkinson, longtime animal lover and HSVC supporter, celebrated his 97th birthday with friends, family, and shelter staff. As an animal welfare organization with a 94-year legacy, we were thrilled to honor a supporter whose commitment to animals spans even longer than our own history!

Allyn was greeted by Arlene MacSween, HSVC's Director of Administration and a close personal friend of the family (above, left). His sons, Dan and Dean, were also in on the surprise party and had invited a group of Allyn's closest friends and family. According to Allyn, the HSVC has always been a special place for their family. Allyn’s late wife, Janet, used to volunteer at the shelter with their sons in the cat room. The family loved giving our adoptable kitties love as they awaited forever homes of their own. Janet’s love for cats and the shelter is commemorated with a photo plaque displayed in our cat lobby and a paver stone in our memory garden, permanently memorializing her dedication to animals in need.

From all of us at the shelter, thank you, Allyn, for your lifelong support. Happy birthday!
